YOUTH BASEBALL

ABOUT

About Steel City Sluggers

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to youth baseball. Our philosophy is that each player should be treated equally and fairly, which translates into equal time at bat and equal time in the field on defense. Our batting order rotates, as do the fielding positions of our players. We distinguish ourselves from other teams and organizations in this way. Our focus is developing players as athletes, not winning games. We develop an Individual Athletic Plan (IAP) for each player. We measure each player's abilities in batting and fielding, use metrics to assess those abilities, and then set attainable goals for measurable progress. We have regular practices throughout the season to work toward those goals. We distinguish ourselves from other teams and organizations in this way also. Our mission additionally is not to take baseball too seriously, but instead to have fun while trying to better ourselves as athletes. A youth sport will have a lifelong impact on its players. That impact should be very positive!

OUR HEAD COACH

ANDREW GLASGOW

Founder, President, and Head Coach

Andrew Glasgow is certified as a youth baseball coach through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS). He is a semi-retired lawyer, working part time for Advocate Ad Idem Law Firm, PC. He goes by "Coach Drew." He follows the philosophy and methodologies of NAYS, principles and fundamentals taught by MLB coaches, players, and trainers. Coach Drew believes: "Youth baseball should be about training athletes with measurable progress, not winning games. Of course, athletes improving their abilities while having fun doing it inevitably results in a competitive team. But the latter is not the focus. Youth baseball is another way to get kids off the couch, off video games and their devices, and to enjoy the great outdoors."

He also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa in excess of 19,000 feet altitude. He knows the value of training for endurance.

Latest News

We plan to offer FREE training and evaluation in March 2024. These training/evaluation sessions will take place on the first four Sundays in March. The sessions allow new players and their parents to get familiar with our coaches, as well as allow our coaches to evaluate the readiness of new players to compete at the tournament level. Locations will be indoors at a baseball training facility in either Cranberry, Wexford, or Pleasant Hills (or multiple locations). If your son is age 12 through 14 and has prior baseball experience, feel free to sign-up here:

If your son is selected afterwards for one of our travel teams, additional training and practices will occur on weekends in April and May. We then plan to compete in summer tournaments in June and July. The tournaments will occur locally and on weekends. We will do our best to avoid schedule conflicts with the practices/games of the school teams and community teams of our players. The cost for the training and practices in April and May, as well as the tournaments in June and July, is anticipated to be about $300 per athlete, which also covers uniforms. Our sponsors plan to cover the remaining costs.
